Review: NYX 10 Color Eyeshadow Palette in 04 Catwalk

30 Mar

Hello everyone! I purchased these palettes about the same time last year and am finally getting around to reviewing them… I’m getting lazy with my swatches. But anyways this is one of the five that I have purchased. Look forward to the other palettes as well!

Description: A 10 pan eyeshadow for all your color needs! Colors from top left to right: A light pink Barbie pink with golden glitters, a glittering gold chocolate brown, an in your face orange with gold glitters, a matte tan-brown, and a gold glitter tree bark shade. In the second row from left to right: A light champagne with brown shimmers, a orange with champagne shimmers, a light tan with shimmers, a rusty chocolate brown, and copper brown. All swatches were done with one swipe.

Review: I have to say that this is the first time that I described so many colors at once no wonder I put off reviewing these palettes until now. The palette is a great everyday shade perfect for the spring due to the orange which is an on-trend color this season. I really like the amount of shades that are available in the palette which you can mix and match to suit your needs. The colors are very warm-toned though so I feel that cool-toned people will have  difficult time pulling off the shades (but it is doable just time-consuming). For the powders they are very smooth and blend very easily on the lids it’s a very nice eyeshadow formulation that’s soft but not too soft where you get so much fallout. Staying power only lasted 2-3 hours without primer and 4-5 hours with primer so it’s not the greatest staying eyeshadow. Same goes for the pigmentation it is pigmented but sometimes it doesn’t show up like that on my eyelids so using a white base (like NYX Eyeshadow base in White) would help with the pigmentation of the shadows. The packaging is very simple and minimalistic which I appreciate I have taken these travelling and dropped them a couple of times and each time they were okay (I only dropped them over carpet so I can’t report on how they fair when they hit a hard floor). Overall, I think this is a great neutral palette perfect for those starting out with makeup.

Cost: $8-10CDN @ ebay.ca

Would I recommend this product? These eyeshadows are great for everyone it’s basic but those who are not warm-toned these eyeshadows are not for you due to the orange-like undertones to the eyeshadows.

Review: Physician’s Formula Season-to-Season Bronzer

28 Mar

Hello everyone! Hooray Spring is coming soon and now I can seriously layer on bronzer for the sought after sun-kissed glow without worrying about skin cancer.

(Top = whole bronzer, L-R: Winter, Spring, Fall, Summer and Middle ball of sparkly stuff)

Description: Wanna look like you have a faux tan everyday of the year? Well this is for you! Four customizable shades for the perfect bronzer look. Swatches were done with one swipe.

Review: Man, this was a pretty pricey bronzer I have to say especially for drugstore. I’ve never actually seen this on sale so those who really want to pick it up just be prepared to pay a bit for it. I personally do enjoy how this bronzer was promoting four different shades for all seasons. It’s a great concept and is sure to be  a hit all year round. Unfortunately there are somethings that are not so good about it. The colors are great they aren’t an Oompa-loompa orange so that’s always nice. All the colors are very pigmented but there is glitter throughout the entire product especially in the center with a little anchor like thing it is just shimmer to add to your face. It blends out easily though and the packaging is quite sturdy even though it’s a little too big for my liking it still works. Staying power was around 5-6 hours without any touch ups which is nice. Now for the unfortunate part of this bronzer, the scent. I smells very intensely of fake flowers and it’s not a pleasant scent I could even smell it after I put it on my face. So for those who have sensitive skin the scent can be a bit irritating on the skin. Also the amount of glitter/shimmers put into the product is a bit off putting I love my shimmer but not when it’ll make me look like a glitter bomb. Overall, I think it’s a nice bronzer with a great concept but the scent and shimmer is very off-putting for me. I won’t repurchase but it’s not a bad product per say.

Cost: $21.99CDN @ Shoppers Drug Mart

Would I recommend this product? I would for those who love shimmery bronzers, enjoy floral scents or do not mind scents in their cosmetics. Everyone else who hates shimmer and intense scents I would recommend to stay far far away from this product.

Review: Maybelline Eyestudio Quad in Copper Chic

27 Mar

Hello everyone! One of the new quads that I purchased from Maybelline this is becoming a regular pick up item.

Description: Four lovely renditions of copper with a buttery smooth texture. The first shade is a champagne/light beige shade, a frost red-tone pink, a bright copper, and a copper toned brown. All swatches were done with one swipe across the hand.

Review: I have reviewed a previous Eyestudio quad in Spirited Seas here and essentially it’s the same type of review but with a different shade. The shadows are extremely pigmented and smooth making them easy to blend on the eye. Sometime it’s a little too easy to blend on the eye and it all blends together to make one ruddy mess but nothing a little eye makeup remover can’t fix. Staying power was alright by themselves it lasted for 3-4 hours while with a primer the full 8 hours and more with a little bit of fading around the 7th hour. Since the shades are very shimmery there is some fall out as well but luckily it doesn’t stick to the face when it falls.  Overall, this selection of shades are great for warmer skintones and I think it’s a great palette that will work in both the warmer and cooler months.

Cost: $8-10CDN @ local drugstores and supermarkets

Would I recommend this product? I would these are great quads for those who seriously love their shimmer.

Review: Physician’s Formula Mineral Airbrushing Pressed Powder in Translucent

26 Mar

Hello everyone! Extremely long title but hey it’s a pretty descriptive name for it. Onto the review to see if it lives up to the claims of airbrushing.

Description: A light powder for the sought after air brushed finish. Swatch was done with one swipe.

Review: Physician’s Formula is a bit more expensive than most drugstore products but they have lately been stepping up their game with some pretty good releases. Though if the product isn’t good I wouldn’t be able to justify it luckily most of the line goes on sale about every 2-3 weeks at Shoppers which makes my wallet a little happy. I really like the color of the packaging it just seems very spring/summer-like with the bright pooliside blue. And the design on the powder itself is a very nice touch. The powder itself is finely milled and does have some tint to it (even though it’s translucent) luckily the tint doesn’t show up on the skin so it’s just translucent. Staying power was around 4-5 hours then I had to touch up it didn’t really control the oil very well. It blended nicely on the skin though. Overall, I think it does give your skin a flawless look but if it doesn’t control the oil very well it’s not working well for me.

Cost: $18-20 @ local drugstores and supermarkets

Would I recommend this product? I think this would work best for those who have dry skin or those who prep their skin with an oil mattifying base. Personally I think it’s too many steps so I won’t be repurchasing unless the packaging lures me to buy it.

Review: Tarte Smooth Operator Finishing Powder

22 Mar

Hello everyone! A fun Tarte post today this is one of my first Tarte items and it was courtesy of Sephora’s 500 point perk.

Description: A natural loose powder which will mattify and smooth out the look of pores on your skin. Translucent is the only shade available.

Review: I really wanted to love this powder as I do with other products that are considered natural but I really dislike this powder. To me it feels like I’m putting baking powder all over my face not a pleasant feeling but it felt extremely smooth gliding across my face. I wore it for a full day and only had to touch up once 8:00pm rolled around (makeup all applied by 7:00) which is darn impressive. But it’s the texture that puts me away from purchasing a full-sized version of this. The packaging is nice and compact  with a nice design it’s simple but has a nice touch to it. I was glad that despite how white it looks in the pot it is transparent so no Casper looking faces were made. My sister tried this (because she was curious) and over-applied and that really accentuated the dry flakes on her skin which was interesting. So a little goes a long way with this. There are only 5 ingrediants in this product: silica, kaolin, lecithin, lysophosphatidic acid, and lysolecithin. Silica explains the smoothness of the powder while kaolin helps control oil. Overall, I think it would be a great product if I didn’t dislike the texture and the method of application.

Cost: Free with 500 point perk @ Sephora; full sized – $28USD/$36CDN

Would I recommend this product? I would recommend to try this product out first through a sample to see if you like it. If you absolutely adore it feel free to pick it up but if you didn’t like it you won’t end up wasting money on a full-sized product.

Review: NYX Retractable Eye Liner

15 Mar

Hello everyone! An eyeliner review today and boy I have a lot of these eyeliners.

Description: Waterproof colorful eyeliners for a perfect everyday look. The shades that I purchased are as follows 01 White, 05 Silver, 06 Gold, 08 Silky Cashmere, 09 Turquoise Blue, 10 Gray, 11 Purple, 12 Pink, 13 Blue Eyes, 14 Deep Blue, 16 Golden Olive. (this was the best picture I could take for you all) All swatches were done with two swipes across the arm and are in the order written above.

Review: There was a time where I was just purely an eyeliner pencil user who loved to sharpen pencils but when those pesky pencil shavings started migrating onto other makeup products I decided it was enough. So I switched over to mechanical pencils in which I didn’t have to sharpen and worry about. But I still like having both options as the thing with pencil liners is that they tend to be creamier and smoother than the mechanical eyeliners. So the texture of the pencils are not as smooth but they still glide acros the lids without any extra tugging. The shade that I had some noted difficulty with was Purple it wasn’t as pigmented as it’s counterparts and was streaky, dragging mess across my lids. Staying power was decent around 6-7 hours but passes the 8 hour mark with a primer (hey I have oily lids I can’t help it). For being waterproof they are as long as you don’t tug at it and I love that you don’t have to sharpen them but can still create a thick or thin line. Overall, great eyeliners except for the purple and the shade selection is just great.

Cost: $4.50USD per pencil @ online stores (nyxcosmetics.com, ebay.ca)

Would I recommend this product? I would these eyeliners are great for an everyday look and the amount of colors available is amazing.

Review: Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream Eyeshadow

5 Dec

Hello everyone! As promised from Twitter a review on the Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream eyeshadows.

Description: Color Tattoos promise 24 hour hold with bold colors and is available in 10 shades. Colors are 02 Tenacious Teal and 10 Fierce & Tangy. Tenacious Teal is a bright teal shade with silver glitter and is very shimmery. Fierce & Tangy is a bright matte orange shade with bits of gold glitter (not very noticable).

Review: Can I just say that I love cream shadows but they crease like no tomorrow on my oily lids? I was tempted not to get these but hey 24 hour hold that’s gotta be some good stuff right? Luckily the product did what it was advertised for lasted for the usual 8 hour shift and beyond! Imagine my surprise when I say that it didn’t budge, move, or crease but by the 8 hour mark the colors were starting to fade (totally acceptable). These are similar to MAC paintpots in terms of packaging. I don’t have MAC paintpots or MakeUp ForEver Aqua Creams so I don’t know how they would compare but I’m very impressed with this product. The creams are very pigmented so a little goes a long way and I will definately be picking up the rest of the line (they had a gorgeous purple and burgandy shade). Overall, a great find from the drugstore.

Cost: $9.99 @ local drugstores and supercenters

Would I recommend this product? I totally would they do promise what they promise and I will definately be picking up more colors from this line.
