Review: Revlon Colorstay Foundation for Oily Skin

24 Jul

The ever popular foundation used on Youtube and the most loved I suppose. Sorry for the flash and my shade is in Sand Beige.

Review: I have not as much experience with foundation as most people would have if they were a makeup artist but I have learned. This was my first liquid foundation and man was it hard to determine what foundation technique I should use with it. I ended up doing the stippling method, foundation brush, and the sponge method never liking any of them but the stippling method (but it was a pain to clean the brush takes 2 days for it to fully dry). Even though this foundation was pretty much liquid it gave the coverage required (medium to full) and worked as all those people on Youtube have said. Drugstores do have a good range of colours for people of different skin tones and this colour matched me really well. For the oily skin formula it did control oil a bit but at the end of the day you look like you have a sort of healthy glow due to the oil. Things I didn’t like about it was that it could get very thick and cakey especially in the summer. I like the natural feeling where you can’t feel the foundation on your face but this just wasn’t one of them.

Cost: $15 – 19CDN wherever available

Would I recommend this product? I would recommend this for those oily people in the wintertime (who likes wearing a full face of makeup in the summer?) . Though for me I would only reserve this foundation for special events (full coverage) and wintertime.

Review: Shiseido Pureness 3-step System

22 Apr

Woohoo, finally a review on these products. The photo of the used products… heh…

Review: A little backdrop in the Shiseido Pureness line, this skincare line is meant for those who have oily and acne-prone skin. I basically fit in that description so I thought that I would try out this starter set before actually buying the full sizes. What is included in this little set is the deep cleansing foam, balancing softener (a.k.a. toner), and the mattifying moisterizer. When I first started using these products I totally saw a difference in my skin, the pores looked smaller, my face was actually mattified, and it felt like the skin was rebalancing and recoverying from using acne cleansers. Things that I disliked was that it made my skin feel really really dry afterwards and the mattifying moisterizer did not have enough moisture or so I felt. Though after I stopped using the cleanser it didn’t feel so dry. The products did really mattify my skin and is great for those who have pretty oily skin but just having one or two of the three products doesn’t do much for your skin. The only thing that I thought was worth it’s money was the mattifying moisterizer which I bought a full size of which was about the same price as the set that I bought. Overall, I think the products are good but I don’t agree with the price tag that goes along with them.

Cost: $40.00 CDN on sale @ Shiseido counter [hooray for January sales]

Would I recommend these products? For those with oily skin yes but I would only recommend the toner and moisterizer. The deep cleansing foam I thought to be too harsh with the exfoliation beads in it and everything.

Review: Maybelline Pure Makeup Foundation

This product title sure wasn’t long… anyways photo:

Review: I find that it is always a hit and miss for drugstore foundations. This one is a miss for me. I am in Light 2 which is a pretty good match and it is a cream foundation. As stated on the website:

” This shine-free foundation with H2O is formulated with 50% water instead of pore-clogging oils that can cause breakouts. ”

This clogged my pores and did give me more acne…. so I don’t think it really did help but for those days where my skin was behaving this was the foundation that I really reached for. Designed more for oily skin that isn’t sensitive I’d give this one a pass but if you have dry skin this formula would help hydrate your skin.

Cost: $8.99CDN

Would I recommend this foundation? I would recommend this foundation for those people who have dry skin but other than that stay away from this foundation
