Skincare Routine: September 2013

30 Sep

Hello everyone! I have a skincare post that I have been meaning to do for the past little while. As you know I went on Accutane and since that experience is over and done with I’ve been meaning to show you what sort of products that I use to help me get rid of the scars leftover. Well here are the products that I use on a daily basis and would recommend to anyone who is looking for some great basic skincare products. Since I change out a lot of my products I plan on doing another one in a few months time.

Makeup Removers – MAC Cleanse off Oil (not shown) – This was a new addition when I started using makeup daily but I have always been a firm believer in removing makeup before actually cleansing the skin. I like this product but I’m not really loyal to any cleansing oils so it changes every time I finish a bottle.
Neutrogena Dual Phased Eye Makeup Remover – I love dual-layer eye makeup removers and Neutrogena makes one of my favorites but since discovering the Maybelline Clean Express version I don’t really want to purchase the Neutrogena anymore because of price points. But putting price points aside this sort of products is what I will continue to repurchase.

Cleanser: Spectro Gel for Blemish-prone skin – Definitely one of my favorites to use the gel formulation is wonderful and gentle on my skin. I’ve been using this cleanser for about 5 years now and it’s always a staple in my skincare routine.

Serum: Naruko Raw Job’s Tear Whitening Serum – I have been using Naruko serums on and off for the last 3 years and they make my favorite serums. The texture of these are wonderful and absorb well into the skin I always have one on hand because they are just that awesome!

Moisturizer: Bare Minerals Purely Nourishing Moisturizer for Combination Skin – When I was on Accutane I actually used the Dry skin version of this moisturizer and really like it but I’m not really a big fan of this one. The earthy soil like fragrance really gets to me everytime I use it so when this is done I won’t be repurchasing.
Naruko Raw Job’s Tear Night Gelly – This is technically a night cream for me but in gel format which is really cool and it’s really cooling at night as well. I do notice my skin looks a little brighter when I use this but the effect doesn’t last so in the morning I look not so bright.

Eye Cream: Kiehl’s Creamy Eye treatment with Avocado – This has replaced my usual favorite Clinique All About Eyes Rich and it is a bit cheaper considering the amounts that I get in a little jar. I really like the way this feels on my eye area and despite it’s $56CDN price tag I am willing to repurchase it when I run out.

Sunscreen: Biore SPF 50+ Sunscreen – I have to say that I exclusively purchase Asian sunscreens because they last longer, don’t have that weird sunscreen scent, better packaging, and better textures. But out of all the Asian sunscreens that I have tried Biore is one of my favorites and I have purchased many of their products. SPF is important even in the winter!

Extra: Origins Super Spot Remover – One of my favorite spot treatments it’s so satisfying to see that a large zit has been reduced to almost nothing the next day!
Rocky Mountain Soap Company Cherry Lip Butter – This has always been a staple in my skincare I use it at night to ensure that my lips aren’t chapped in the morning. I keep going back to this because this product is just that awesome!
Systane Eye Drops – I usually use the lubricant kind but couldn’t find it so this version is what I have been using. When I was on Accutane my eye doctor was like “OMG your eyes are as dry as the Sahara desert!” and then proceeded to recommend me these brand’s drops and it is really good. I really like them and even though I’m not on Accutane anymore it really like the way it feels and this has stuck in my routine since.

Well that was everything I hope that you enjoyed this post and since it’s the end of the month there are some more update posts on the way.

Review: Etude House Missing U Lip Balm

22 Apr

Hello everyone! A review on the Missing U line from Etude House. Lip balms!

Review: OMG! The packaging is soooo cute!! That’s probably why I have all four of the lip balms… anyways, each tin represents an animal on the verge of extinction and by purchasing from the line you contribute to saving some of these animals. Each of them appear glossy on the lips and have a nice flavour to time. These are great to give out to others as gifts as I did with mine these were definately meant to be shared.

Cost: $4-5USD approx. @ ebay.com

Would I recommend this product? I would recommend these products for sure they are moisturizing and the tints are quite natural and nice for an everyday sort of look.

Empties 2012

17 Jan

Hello everyone! So today is an empties post. Do you guys remember finished products from last year? Well I’ve renamed the category (yes it now has it’s own category) and it’s considered empties. Makes it sound so official and awe-inspiring much better than finished products. But anyways, I meant to post this up a while ago but things have been busy (hey at least I post right?).

These are the products that I finished and when I dumped it all out to photograph it for you guys my dad walks in and was like ‘What the hell is all this crap? Throw them away!’. There is a lot as it has accumulated over I would say 3 months. And good riddance it was taking up a lot of space. Not much makeup was finished during this time but lots of body care items (I have a lot of them curse B&BW with their great sales).

There are a lot of Bath & Body Works shower gels and lotions, as well as skincare samples and items such as SpectroGel (my favourite), and the few makeup items were the Too Faced Lip Balm, Physician’s Formula Happy Booster bronzer (review coming up soon) and an ELF Hypershine Lipgloss (can you find it?).

Review: ELF Matte Lip Color

22 Dec

Hello everyone! This is the last of the ELF review marathon. Whew I apologize for the sheer amount of posts today but hey I’d rather be blogging than working or helping my mom bake.

Description: A lip crayon with a matte finish. Shades are Tea Rose (mauvey pink) and Praline (dark brown based pink).

Review: I didn’t get to take a picture but there is quite a bit of product in the tubes itself. The shades are based on the opposite spectrum. Tea Rose is a cool tone lipstick (which is why it looks awkward on me) and Praline is a warm brown based lip color (those work best with me). The texture is not smooth as expected with matte lipsticks they tend not to be smooth while applied to the lips. With a matte finish it does have a tendency to emphasize dry lips or flaky lips so I recommend you exfoliate and moisturize before putting on this lipstick. The lipstick is very pigmented and packaging is a nice crayon format which makes it easy to apply to the lips and you can line your lips at the same time. It has a twist up design which stores a lot of product. Overall, it is a matte lipstick which acts like a matte lipstick but does have pretty good pigmentation.

Cost: $3USD @ eyeslipsface.com

Would I recommend this product? I find that the shades themselves are not really flattering and matte shades are very hard to pull off due to the texture and finish but I do like the product itself. I don’t know if I would recommend these to others or not so I’ll just leave this section as an ‘buy if you are curious’ or buy if you love matte lipsticks.

Review: Too Faced Beauty Balm in Watermelon

13 Jul

Hello everyone! A Too Faced product review today… one of two (ahah I only have two Too Faced products). Hopefully this review is helpful.

Review: This is a tinted lip balm essentially in a pot format. Too Faced is known for their cute and vintage packaging and this does not disappoint it’s so cute! I dislike dipping my fingers into products but I make an exception for this as the color gives the lips a nice flush of color (rosey pink on the lips with shimmer). It is extremely moisturizing and wear for quite some time (approximately 3-4 hours without eating and drinking). The batch that I got somehow does not smell nor taste like Watermelon that I was expecting instead it has a scent of burnt plastic mixed with a bit of watermelon. Another unfortunate thing is that these are not available instore nor does it exist on Too Faced’s site thus you can either purchase it off allcosmeticswholesale.com or any other online store. Which means shipping costs is going to jack the price up from the usual $11 or not.

Cost: $5.99USD @ allcosmeticswholesale.com, Original price $11USD

Would I recommend this product? I would recommend this product for those who are willing to purchase this item online but for those who aren’t willing to pay for ridiculous shipping prices or are germ-o-phobes then it’s not a product that you need to get.

Review: Lipsmackers Lip Balm

23 Jul

Lipsmackers… sure brings back memories and I hated it back (might have been because of the cakey flavours) but now I’m back in love with them (fruity flavours only).

Opps upside down photo… but you get the picture.. get it? I crack myself up sometimes.

Review: This is the product to get for those starting off with makeup or wanting to start off with makeup. Ironically I started using Lipsmackers when I was in what Gr 3? But I swore off of it mainly due to the way it felt on my lips… something unnatural. My family is a big advocator for natural beauty so back then it made sense that I didn’t want anything to help with my looks. Now it’s a totally different view… I am a huge advocator for girls to wear makeup but I still prefer the natural look. So with Lipsmackers I only wear at home or I apply it on top of a SPF lipbalm (Nivea or SoftLips) don’t want those sun rays to hurt the skin on my lips. Trust me burnt lips aren’t as fun. It is pretty moisturizing and adds a nice sheen to the lips.

Cost: $2.99CDN wherever available

Would I recommend this product? Of course I would! Who wouldn’t?
